Subject: Research Proposal
Proposed Research Topic:
Television Idents are used to create a channels identity, the ethos of the channel. To make our Idents suitable for our target audience we need to make sure that the colours, images are correct and suit the channel. For Dave we cannot use lots of different colours because it doesn’t suit the channels identity, therefore only limited colours should be used.
Purposes:
I am researching how to create an effective ident because creating a great ident will attract a larger audience and keep the viewers on the channel. By finding the audience which Dave is aimed at I can successfully find out what theme I should use in my ident.
Background
I aim to look at Dave’s background to find what colours, speed, space, and theme I should use/do in my ident. This will help create an effective ident for the channel
Scope:
I tend to take a survey and focus group once I have found out Dave’s corporate identity, this is because when I find out Dave’s target audience I can interview participants which fall into Dave’s target audience. I aim to take around 10-20 interviews as the data will give me a strong result and give me a direct direction in which I should design/create my ident.
Method:
First I will find out Dave’s corporate identity, from there I will start to look at the
colour schemes, font design and ident design, which I can associate with my idea for
Dave’s ident. Following that I will conduct around 10-20 interviews/surveys in
which I can find out who I should aim my ident at, what it should look like and how
it should make the audience feel. Once I have collected all of that data I will look at
Dave’s existing idents, from this I can see what theme I should base my ident around.
If I didn’t, I may make an Ident with a completely different theme which will not be
set around Dave’s corporate identity, in turn, not creating an effective ident for Dave.
Limitations:
I have very few limitations when creating my ident, however, the limitations which I do have are really strong, for example, I do not work for the company, therefore I cannot get vital information about the company and its identity, so the evidence that I do collect only contributes to an estimate. Also, when conducting surveys I am limited to Ravens Wood School, therefore the majority of the surveys will be taken by men, therefore giving a result mainly based/suited for men as there are only a few women. so in order to make this fair I will have to give the survey to the same amount of men as women.
