I will be writing about what corporate identity theory is, how channels use corporate identity theory to capture an audience with colours and logos, how channels communicate with the audience by using advertising, information and programming and what corporate behavior is.
What is Corporate Identity?
Corporate Identity is the appearance of a corporation; this contains the corporation’s logo, colour scheme, title and font style. These are used to make a brand recognizable. All organizations need to do this even if the company is profit or non-profit, it is vital that a company does this as it allows its consumers to easy recognize the brand. It is used for companies to answer “who are we?” and “where are we going?” (Wikipedia). By using this, consumers can denote whether the brand suits them or not. Brands need to have clear differentiation from other brands to signify who they are and who they represent. With this a brand can build a reputation for its self. Corporate identity is important, without it consumers would not be able to identify the brand, its identity shows consumers where the brand is headed and who its intended for.
If we look at the channel E4 we can see that its colour scheme is purple and white, its logo is cool and modern. From this we can see that this channel is aimed at teenagers and young adults.

When we take a look at E4’s idents we can see that there is no order, its meant to look cool, young and random, this is because the programming on the channel is filled with shows that are meant to entertain and humor you. Why do they do this? E4 use these random idents because their audience is young, and they want to capture their attention.
However when we look at BBC 2’s identity we can see that its very simple, the font is very clean but at the same time recognizable. BBC 2 use vey little in their logo to make their company appeal to their consumers, who are older more sophisticated.
Their idents are completely different to E4’s, its ordered and calm, to show its audience what the channel is about and what programs they are going to show.

What is Corporate Communication?
Corporate communication is how a channel communicates with their audience, whether that would be though adverts, programming and information. Different channels use different techniques to communicate with their audience, for example, E4 use a mascot called Eefer who holds up signs, with funny little messages, during the ad break to keep the audience engaged and to show new-comers to the channel what E4 is about.
On the other hand, BBC 2 does not have a mascot as BBC 2 wants to show their audience that they are sophisticated, mature and practical. They engage their audience by showing programs that are intriguing and very likable. This way the audience will not get bored and switch channels they will stick onto BBC 2 and want to keep watching the show.
E4’s programming is very distant to BBC 2’s as its audience is looking for completely different programs, E4’s audience are 16-34 year olds so the majority will be looking for something to entertain them, this is why E4 put or shows such as ‘The inbetweeners’ because the show will be entertaining to their target audience.

What is Corporate Behavior?
Corporate Behavior is how a channel acts towards its audience and other partners. For example most channels do not allow swear words, nudity, adult content before 9 pm as this is when most children are awake, so after 9pm (water shed) swear words, nudity, adult content, are allowed, this shows that organizations care for their audience and don’t want children to see rude things.
Channels look at other things than just swear words before 9pm, corporate behavior means that many companies will follow strict rules.
